3D Internet. The Next Logical Step?

Take a deep breath, close your eyes and imagine yourself being able to fully interact with a website, almost as though you're able to touch it. Grab the navigation with your mouse and bring it closer to you, larger and more in focus. Double click on the navigation and allow it to fall back in place. Forget about introductory paragraphs and watch the short introductory video clip that looks like it's just a part of the website interface. Watch the presenter as you fight the urge to reach out and touch them or shake their hand. Now, open your eyes and look at your computer monitor as is. It's vastly different than what you were imagining, isn't it?

I believe this is the next logical step though, and probably something that's not too far in the foreseeable future. As with any new technology, the initial challenge is getting it down to a cost-effective rate so there could be a significant boom in the market, convincing software developers and manufacturers that the 3D experience is the next step and not just a fad and justifying their commitment to further development. Right now we're all becoming accustomed to TV's being in 3D, but, what I think most people haven't been talking about is the fact that the monitor we stare at the most throughout the day is our computer monitor, on our desk. Yeah, the one you're looking at right now. Most of us are probably using an LCD monitor, which is basically what we all have in our living rooms, right. So theoretically, the next logical step would be a 3D internet, right?

All I know is that once we're at that point in technology I'm going to want the software asap! I think 3D internet is eventually going to play a vital role in the users web experience as a whole. This ultimately means I'm going to probably have to invest in a sick pair of 3D glasses as well. Do they make any that look like aviators?
